PresidentPaulene Scott Kearney

Paulene is the Litigation Operations Manager in the Creditor’s Rights Department at Smith Debnam Narron Drake Saintsing & Myers, L.L.P.  Paulene has been with the firm since 2000, where she initially started as a Recovery Agent.  In 2003, Paulene completed the Paralegal Studies Program through UNC Wilmington.  She has been an NC State Bar Certified Paralegal since 2007.  Paulene is also currently on the board of the NC Paralegal Association and has served on the board of the RWPA for five years.   Paulene has two beautiful daughters and a sweet doggie named Riley.

1st VP/Membership – Latashia Bethea

Latashia Bethea is the Raleigh Wake Paralegal Association Vice President of Membership and serves on the committee as the Public Relations/Job Bank Chair. As a North Carolina State Bar Certified Paralegal, she also serves the community through the North Carolina Legal Aid Lawyer on the Line Program concerning various civil litigation, and bankruptcy issues.

After graduating from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 2013 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, she later went on to earn her Paralegal certificate from Meredith College with a Real Estate specialty in 2017. Latashia enjoys helping legal professionals grow and connect through the promotion of professionalism and ethics in the legal field.

Raleigh native, Latashia enjoys the outdoors and spending time with family. You can find her at a local nature trail, listening to music, or researching a new recipe in her pastime. With a background in Public Relations, she is passionate about helping others solve complex issues, providing quality services, and business solutions.

 2nd VP/Education – Melodie Rinker

Melodie is an Estate Specialist with First Citizens Bank, Estate Settlement, and has provided paralegal support for law firms and financial institutions for over 27 years. Melodie received her Associates Degree in Paralegal Technology, with high honors, from Durham Technical Community College. She is an Advanced Certified Paralegal through the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) and a Certified Paralegal with the North Carolina State Bar. Melodie is a member of RWPA, North Carolina Bar Association’s Paralegal Division and NALA. This is her second year as an officer with RWPA.

Sue Atti graduated from Hilbert College in Hamburg, NY with a bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies in 2003.  She has been living in North Carolina for about fifteen years, and working as a paralegal since 2004. Sue is a Certified Paralegal with North Carolina.  Currently, she works for the City of Raleigh as a condemnation paralegal.  Sue has previously worked in bankruptcy, collections, corporate and patent law.  She is a member of the Raleigh-Wake Paralegal Association (RWPA), the North Carolina Paralegal Association, and the Research Triangle Paralegal Association (RTPA).  This is Sue’s second year as an officer with RWPA.

Patron & Sustaining – Jennifer Eason 

Jennifer Eason is a Certified Paralegal through the National Association of Legal Assistants (“NALA”) and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Bachelor’s Degree in American Studies. She is also a graduate of the Paralegal Program at Durham Technical Community College, with an Associate’s Degree in Paralegal Technology.  As a Certified Paralegal, she provides support to the attorneys in the legal department at Allscripts Healthcare, LLC.  Jennifer also serves as the Seminar Chair for the North Carolina Paralegal Association.  This will be Jennifer’s sixth year as a board member of the Raleigh-Wake Paralegal Association.

Student RelationsAlice Johnson 

Alice is an Employment and Labor Litigation and Immigration Paralegal at Jackson Lewis P.C.  She has been employed as a paralegal in North Carolina since 2010. Alice has over 25 years of experience in the legal field working as both a Legal Assistant and Paralegal in Michigan before moving to North Carolina in 2008. Alice is a member of the North Carolina State Bar Association Paralegal Division.

Parliamentarian/Historian– Cindy McGhee

Cindy McGhee is a North Carolina Certified Paralegal, a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with a B.A. in English and a B.A. in Psychology, and a graduate of the Meredith College Paralegal Program.  She is currently employed as a bankruptcy and litigation paralegal at Smith Debnam Narron Drake Saintsing & Myers, L.L.P., where she has been employed since 2001. She is on the Board of Directors of the Raleigh Wake Paralegal Association, currently serving as the Parliamentarian/Historian, is on the Council of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Paralegal Division and is the Nominations and Elections Chair of the North Carolina Paralegal Association.  Cindy is also a Guardian Ad Litem, a Girl Scout Leader and a member of the Junior League of Raleigh. This will be Cindy’s fourth year as a board member of the RWPA.

SocialAshley Hudson

Ashley is the Hearing Coordinator in the Creditor’s Rights Department at Smith Debnam Narron Drake Saintsing & Myers, L.L.P. Ashley has been with the firm since 2015. Ashley received her Bachelor’s in Political Science, with a concentration in Preliminary Law, from UNC Pembroke in December 2012. She then went on to complete the Paralegal Program at Meredith in May 2017 and became an NC State Bar Certified Paralegal in December 2017. Ashley lives in Durham with her husband, Brandon, their dog, Bear, and their two cats, Madeline and Jack. Webmaster Christopher Wear

 

Chris is a Creditor’s Rights Paralegal at Smith Debnam Narron Drake Saintsing & Myers, L.L.P. Before starting in that position in 2016, Chris was an Estate Planning and Administration Paralegal with a small firm in Raleigh from 2013-2016. Chris earned his Bachelor’s degree in Classical Guitar Performance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, in Winston-Salem, NC. He taught private music lessons for over 10 years before obtaining his Paralegal Certificate from Duke University. Chris performs as a guitarist in rock, classical, and jazz groups. He enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters.
